“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”
Most media, even the liberal-leaning chatterers, concur that Obama is taking a beating for his administration’s handling of the Gulf oil catastrophe. But in actuality, presidential approval polls don’t support that conclusion. Rasmussen, for example, shows Obama’s overall approval floating between 45 and 48 percent for the past two months or longer. Where is the collapse that we hear is happening?
The fact is, Obama will likely survive this threat politically because — unlike Katrina, which was an act of nature — there’s a tangible human culprit other than government in the Gulf. That, of course, would be BP or “British Petroleum.” Even though a plurality — when asked — think that Obama could do a better job managing the clean up, a substantial majority are furious with BP. To be sure, that’s a public opinion that the White House has fueled aggressively. Isn’t it convenient that Gulf-oil rage can be syphoned off Obama’s back and re-routed to Big Bad (and don’t forget British) Petroleum Company.
Whether or not you entertain conspiracy theories, it’s hard to ignore the political opportunities afforded to Obama by this crisis. It enables him to pursue at least three priority agendas:
1) Downgrading of Britain (why do you think he insists on calling BP “British Petroleum” when the company ditched that name 12 years ago?);
2) Puffing up the myth that President Hope-and-Change is our #1 enemy of greedy corporations; and
3) Promoting an alternative energy scheme sponsored by Big Government.
And fortunately for Barry, most of the victims of this disaster reside in deeply red states anyway, with the exception of Florida. Who really needs them?
So yeah, it’s a conspiracy theory and admittedly a far stretch. But regardless of how accidental this horrific accident was, I’m sure that the brilliant strategists inside 1400 Pennsylvania Ave. will pump every last ounce of leverage from this crisis, lest it go to waste on their watch.

Do you think Obama realizes that BP successfully manuvered him into a $20 billion box this morning? In his desperation to display some semblence of competence he ran a bluff that BP called. BP threw money in the bank, but Obama’s going to answer for how it’s spent… and we all know damn well how it’s going to be spent. The truth is that BP’s mess cannot be successfully cleaned up. Everybody adversely affected cannot be made whole. Obama’s minions will blow through $20B and have little or nothing to show for it. BP will run nearly constant PR campaigns and the public perception of BP’s efforts will improve as the escrow account drains and the environmental devastation fails to improve. BP doesn’t have to stand for election in 2010, 2012 or ever. The Democrats do and their opponents will be merciless in pointing out what the $20B has failed to do.
Obama got rolled. Again.
Usurper bo is trying to put the blame all on BP to take the heat off himself. Bo is more to blame for this sabotage than BP. This is a big cover up. Bo is good at doing cover ups. I hope that people will wake up and realize how evil, corrupt and criminal this usurper is. Millions of people should demand his resignation along with all the other corrupt politicians and bo’s evil regime.
I am asking this of “the regulars” of this WTPOTUS, drKate, and where this all began for most of us, TexasDarlin’s blog…I know many, if not most of you, began this roller coaster ride as Hillary supporters: PUMAS. In light of Hillary’s recent pronouncement (which she apparently condones) that the DOJ will sue Arizona over their immigration law, do you still support her, or do you see her as a complicit Marxist enabler?
Word on the street is a deal will be stuck with Biden wherein he will step down and the 2012 ticket will be Obama/Clinton. Smart politics. Meet the new dictator, same as the old dictator.
Then again, perhaps I am being presumptuous in believing most of you are no longer Hillary fans.
On 6/16/10 Obama had his lowest disapproval rating ever, 42% on Rasmussen. Today, 6/17/10 his disapproval rating is 43% on Rasmussen. Thats because the liberal dopes are answering the phones.
Merlin’s Apprentice has it right on the BP deal, BP had already set it up in their favor, and let Obama take the credit (actually will become his fall). I think Sven, the BP CEO also thinks of Obama as one of the “little people.
Nice to “see” you TD.
I am so sad about the environmental devistation this oil leak has caused. I feel that state and local governments along the coast should do what they need to do to protect and clean their shores, not waiting for federal approval. There is too much bureaucracy and red tape. How many people can the feds sue for protecting themselves, when the national govt. is so inept? Everybody rise up and do what needs to be done. I hope Obama fails to push through his agenda. Please, God, save our nation!
