“As we’ve already seen from the backroom deals and kickbacks cut by the Democrats in Washington, they intend to do anything and everything to pass their controversial health care plan.”
In case you’d like a quick primer: Paul Kirk is the acting Senator who was appointed by Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick to replace Ted Kennedy so that Democrats could have enough votes in the U.S. Senate to ram HealthScare through with a fillibuster-proof majority, without having to wait for the results of a special election. The Mass. legislator and Gov. Patrick issued a rule change in 2009 that enabled the appointment of Kirk soon after Kennedy’s death, in response to a death-bed plea from Kennedy himself, even though it was Ted Kennedy who had orchestrated the previous rule change in 2004 that prohibited an interim appointment, back when John Kerry ran for president. (See this WSJ article for a more complete analysis.)
This week, Kirk audaciously declared that he will still provide the 60th vote for HealthScare even if Scott Brown wins the Jan. 19 special election, suggesting that his corrupt Dem. colleagues would make sure to delay the swearing in of Mr. Brown. If all that weren’t offensive enough, Kirk had previously promised to remain neutral in the special election.
Welcome to the party of hope and change. Brown issued this official statement today on his campaign website:
1-09-10 Statement On Appointed U.S. Senator Kirk’s Intention’s To Be 60th Vote
Good afternoon – I wanted to make sure you saw the following comments earlier today, as reported by State House News Service, from Governor Patrick’s appointed U.S. Senator Paul Kirk, in which he clearly states that he intends to be the 60th vote for the Democrats’ health care bill – even if Scott Brown is elected to the Senate seat by the people of Massachusetts on January 19, 2010.
According to this report:
Speaking with reporters, Kirk also predicted that Congress would approve a national health care bill by the end of the month – in time for the president’s State of the Union address – and said he would vote for it even if Massachusetts voters elect Brown. Brown has said he’d be the 41st vote against the health bill, which would give Republicans a large enough margin to prevent if from moving forward.
“Absolutely,” Kirk said, when asked if he’d vote for the bill, even if Brown captures the seat. “It would be my responsibility as United States Senator, representing the people and understanding Senator Kennedy’s agenda and the rest of it … I think you’re asking me a hypothetical question but I’d be pleased to vote for the bill.”
In reporting on this I hope you will consider the following response from the Scott Brown for Senate campaign:
“This is a stunning admission by Paul Kirk and the Beacon Hill political machine today. Paul Kirk appears to be suggesting that he, Deval Patrick, and Harry Reid intend to stall the election certification until the health care bill is rammed through Congress, even if that means defying the will of the people of Massachusetts. As we’ve already seen from the backroom deals and kickbacks cut by the Democrats in Washington, they intend to do anything and everything to pass their controversial health care plan. But threatening to ignore the results of a free election and steal this Senate vote from the people of Massachusetts takes their schemes to whole new level. Martha Coakley should immediately disavow this threat from one of her campaign’s leading supporters.”
Are the smart and decent citizens of Massachusetts going to sit back and do nothing while their state is corrupted? I think not. Here are the resources you need to stop this nonsense, even if you don’t live in Massachusetts:

TexasDarling, I am shocked at the overt attempt to punk the vote.
Umm, John Kerry did not resign his seat to run for president, he is still a Senator from Massachusetts.
you are right, of course. i corrected the text
I think this will backfire on them.
personally, i want to see Harry carry out what has been reported and not seat a duely elected Senator. If this this go down, the American people will take not and the Dems will get creamed come November.
Sadly, with both sides so incompetent, gridlock cometh.
Best to you and yours in the coming year Bud White. it will be an interesting one.
