Several news sources are confirming that John McCain has picked maverick Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his VP!

Stay tuned for updates…
UPDATE 1 from CNBC:
Palin is a first-term governor credited with reforms of her out-of-the-way state.
Newly minted Democratic nominee Barack Obama is making an aggressive play for the traditional GOP stronghold and its three electoral votes, and polls show the race close.
At 44, Palin is younger than Obama and, like McCain, she calls herself a maverick.
A Gulfstream IV from Anchorage, Alaska, flew into Middletown Regional Airport in Butler County near Cincinnati about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, said Rich Bevis, airport manager.
A female maverick, and the only Governor on either ticket.
Brilliant!
UPDATE 2: And how can Obama question Palin’s experience? He’s done nothing in the US Senate. At least Palin has already accomplished a lot in her 2 years as Governor:
FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Highlights of Governor Palin’s tenure include a successful push for an ethics bill, and also shelving pork-barrel projects supported by fellow Republicans. Palin successfully killed the Bridge to Nowhere project that had become a nationwide symbol of wasteful earmark spending.[13][17] “Alaska needs to be self-sufficient, she says, instead of relying heavily on ‘federal dollars,’ as the state does today.”[6]
She has challenged the state’s Republican leaders, helping to launch a campaign by Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell to unseat U.S. Congressman Don Young[18] and publicly challenging Senator Ted Stevens to come clean about the federal investigation into his financial dealings.[13] Palin supports holding occasional legislative sessions outside the state capital, and municipal revenue sharing to help local governments.[citation needed]
Energy policies
Palin’s tenure is noted for her independence from big oil companies, while still promoting resource development.[6][13] Palin has announced plans to create a new sub-cabinet group of advisors, to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska. [19]
Shortly after taking office, Palin rescinded an appointment by Murkowski of his former chief of staff Jim Clark to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority, one of thirty-five appointments made by Murkowski in the last hour of his administration that she reversed. [20][21] Clark later pled guilty to conspiring with a defunct oil-field-services company to channel money into Frank Murkowski’s re-election campaign. [22]
In March 2007, Palin presented the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA) as the new legal vehicle for building a natural gas pipeline from the state’s North Slope.[23] Only one legislator, Representative Ralph Samuels, voted against the measure,[24] and in June Palin signed it into law.[25][26] On January 5, 2008, Palin announced that a Canadian company, Transcanada, was the sole AGIA-compliant applicant.[27][28]
In response to high oil and gas prices, and in response to the resulting state government budget surplus, Palin proposed giving Alaskans $100-a-month energy debit cards. She also proposed providing grants to electrical utilities so that they would reduce customers’ rates.[29] She subsequently dropped the debit card proposal, and in its place she proposed to send Alaskans $1,200 directly and eliminate the gas tax…
And while she is predictably anti-choice, she is sympathetic to gay rights:
Palin’s first veto was used to block legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to gay state employees and their partners. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska’s attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation.
Speaking as a lifelong Democrat who has marched FOR a woman’s right to choose:
Palin’s stance on abortion will NOT keep me from supporting a McCain-Palin ticket.
I will take my chances on the abortion issue because I believe Barack Obama presents much greater dangers to the country.
PUMA for McCain-Palin!

CNBC says it is Sarah.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/26454655
It would be huge, TD! I am SO hoping McCain has the brains to make such a bold and exciting move.
Would the Dems dare to question her experience, since she is at the bottom of the ticket with more experience than THEIR top of the ticket?
Would love to see her debate Joe Biden, too.
Here is a report from the Dayton Daily News of Dayton Ohio:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/08/29/mj083008vpcandidate.html
TD- this seems to be confirmed by FOX! We pubblies love her…and while she’s a pro-life gal- I hope PUMA’S can look at the big picture with her.
Worried about how she can stand up to Biden? her nickname is Sarah Barracuda:)
I’m frankly surprised McCain did this- I really thought he’d go more predictable- but I’m THRILLED!!!
She is- as I said yesterday- a strong woman- and smart as hell!
Fox News is officially reporting that the McCain VP IS SARAH PALIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MC CAIN SENIOR OFFICIAL CONFIRMS TO FOX- PALIN IS IT!!!!!!!!!!
And this makes the DNC’s treatment of Hillary so much more degrading, and it probably means that Hillary will have a formidable female opponent for President in 2012.
McCain really is smart for this move. And Fox keeps reiterating that McCain thought the Dems’ overlooking Hillary was a mistake and he wanted to reach out to women who were feeling the pain of being overlooked.
I LOVE this!!! I just wish women could band together for a less experienced VP candidate with the solid numbers that AA’s are banding together for a less experienced Presidential candidate.
Palin’s Parents Told To Listen To Radio
“Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s parents were called early this morning at their home in Wasilla and told to “listen to the radio” by Palin’s husband, Tim.”
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/08/29/politics/horserace/entry4395877.shtml
Congrats Governor Palin you have my full support .
[...] PUMA for McCain-Palin: ‘Palin’s stance on abortion will NOT keep me from supporting a McCain-Palin ticket’ (Texas Darlin) [...]
A McCain-Palin ticket excites me so much more than a Soetoro-Biden ticket.
Speaking as a woman who has seen her days of marching, writing, and speaking to Pro Choice rights and who has consistently voted for Pro Choice candidates, I too can support this ticket with my vote in November.
This country is at war. The men and women who have chosen to serve in the military so that my rights as an American citizen remain protected have my vote. There is no way I could, with good conscience, ever vote for the “one” who lacks any and all military experience. I want a proven military leader in the WH PERIOD.
The fight for my sisters pro choice rights will have to be taken up by them and they will vote the way they need to, but this pro choice gal is solidly behind McCain.
I’ve always admired McCain for marching to his own drum and have appreciated his maverick nature, whether I agreed with his position or not. It’s that he is strident to “walk his talk”. He has purpose. He has demonstrated again and again that he loves this great country, and he is a leader through and through.
Now, he has Governor Palin as his running mate, and again, he demonstrates his leadership. He knows we Democratic women were disenfranchised and kicked to the curb. So, he’s opened a door to us Democratic women so we can continue with our work to put a woman in the WH. This move was a no brainer – his challenge was which R woman.
I could give a hoot if he has an R, a D or an I behind his name. Hillary would have been the full package but she was kicked to the curb, and the farce of a ticket that the D’s have put together disturbs me greatly.
Nope. This time I’m voting for leadership whose paramount concern is the safety and well being of the United States of America and ALL of her people.
Go get ‘em John!
I post at Beliefnet.com, and just now a poster made the comment that none of Hillary’s voters would go for McCain.
He is SO wrong!!!!
If you want to hear how bright she is- listen to her here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ys4HGbiONY
I know you all may disagree with her policies- but damn she’s strong!
I’ve heard Geraldine Ferraro now twice on FOX- she’s so pleased with this choice it ALMOST sounds as though she’ll be voting for this ticket..
Geraldine on Ferraro on Fox News right now (by phone), and she’s talking about PUMA!!! She says she has heard from over 300 of us in the last couple of weeks and that we feel Hillary got cheated, etc., and she thinks the PUMA voters will be swayed by McCain’s choice for VP.
This PUMA sure will be! It’s so nice to hear our organization mentioned on cable news by such a stateswoman as Ferrarro.
And it’s awesome that McCain understood our pain.
Wow- Obama’s statement on Palin is jaw-droppingly dismissive.
How much military experience does Palin have?
OH, never mind. Crash McCain has the experience
Sorry- forgot to post the statement itself:
From the Obama campaign:
Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same.
Obama should talk. That Gaffe machine thinks there are 58 states. I guess Eau Claire Wisconsin is one of 58 states. That Gaffe machine does not have one legislative accomplishment in the US Senate. That Gaffe machine has not even completed one term in the US Senate.
I would like to ask that Gaffe Machine what the hell is his foreign policy?
Darlin’, everyone….just start reading the comments from Obama and Company!
They don’t even know Palin pushed for and passed massive new taxes on the oil companies, and actually turned the money around and rebated it to the taxpayers.
Here are your talking points, in addition to the above:
Gee…who is talking about The Chosen One now?
Obama is a sexist, a man who thinks a woman isn’t good enough to stand at his side in this election. An insecure narcissist who needs flunkies and yes men around him.
The misogynists running the Obama campaign, and their doting sycophants are about to reap the whirlwind. Couldn’t happen to a more vile and nasty bunch.
Together, all of us, REAL Democrats (not nasty radicals) and Republicans, Independents, women and men, we will take back our government.
Oh! I forgot! Take a look and download/share this with everyone!
http://ridgeliner7.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/mccainpalin1.jpg
Notice the Big Dipper on the left? It’s on the Alaskan flag.
we are done with the democrats who wouldn’t and couldn’t find a space for a woman. Go Sarah, we are with you….life-long democrats, now lost to DNC forever. ps….Sarah has more experience, guts, honor and integrity in her little finger than nobama.
after checking the other sites, it appears the Obama paid exgamers are out in force. This pick must really have struck a nerve.
Deb–Here’s my counter to the rude Obama comment:
Today, Nancy Pelosi, Donna Brazile, Howard Dean and Teddy Kennedy put a former community organizer with zero foreign policy experience at the top of the Democratic ticket. Barack Obama is unknown to have any real commitments to Democratic policies; however, he has frequently been heard to say he believes in “hope” and “change”. Just what we need–more hope and voting to give telecoms immunity.
Way to go John —- a great pick.
Uhh… errr, ya know… urrr humm, uhhh errruhh eheyyy she uh, she’s above my pay grade…
Hurrah!
The heck with the “hope” and “change” I want people with concrete
voting records.
Also, she’s a member of “Femminsts for Life” AND she CHOSE to have
a child, who was diagnosed in-utero with Downs Syndrome rather than
abort the child. She walks the walk!
McCain just got my vote!
It has been months since I have been this happy! Go McCain/Palin 08!
T how much military experience does Obama have ?
T here’s another one for you . I can’t find a military record anywhere for Biden . So I guess neither Biden or Obama served in the military .
I just flipped to MSNBC something I haven’t done in 10 years or more and they were interviewing a female writer from US News & World Report . The topic was Governor Palin they had nothing but nasty things to say about the Governor . You could get a better political view from Saturday Night Live . Its no wonder their ratings are in the toilet . They act like a bunch of idiots .
She was the head of the Alaska National Guard, FYI.
A personal invitation from Ohio:
Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted said that backers of Hillary Clinton have “found someone to support today. If they weren’t already in McCain’s camp, this is just another reason to be there.”
http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2008/08/ohio_gops_dems_praise_mccains.html
Are you kidding me? Let’s substitute any woman for Hillary? One skirt for another? This is not OK with me. I’m staying home and if I change my mind, it won’t be for McCain, who has demonstrated with this pick, how he really feels about accomplished, qualified, women like Hillary. The glass ceiling is not going to be cracked by this know-nothing nobody.
Great move McCain, say hello to President Obama.
Wow. Even though she’s a great choice the McCain/Palin ticket has a great deal to do — Obama/Biden is the dream this country has been waiting for. McCain would be an awful Commander in respect to the middle east and India, and she wants to drill up her own beautiful state for gas… I’m not sure whether to be joyous or scared…

“John McCain has reached for the stars and grabbed one. On a recent cruise to Alaska, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Sarah Palin. She is brilliant and articulate and, in Alaska politics, is a breath of fresh air as an alternative to their corruption epitomized by Alaska Republican Senator Ted Stevens. Now Obama, who has spent two years preventing a woman from being president, will spend two months preventing one from becoming vice president – and hopes to do so with women votes. The entire premise of the Democratic convention was the fungibility of Bush and McCain. Now McCain has vividly demonstrated the difference. Sarah Palin is no Dick Cheney!”

So Biden is a corrupt asshole
I believe she’s also the one who refused her own private jet and put the one they had on E-bay. She might out-maverick The Maverick. Also just saw footage of her, as head of the AL National Guard, sitting down with soldiers in the mess hall and on the firing range with them, firing an automatic weapon. Oh, and she used to run 7-10 miles a day until the last child, now back up to about 3 miles every other day. Maybe they should just put the Governor and John McCain in the ring with the Obie and Joey and settle it there.
And, she’s run a business, a city and a state. What’s the One done? Basically, he’s run for president (remember, he couldn’t hold ANY hearings of his oversight committee with jurisdiction over Afghanistan — which he believes is the true front in the war on terror — because he’s been too busy campaigning) since he hit the Senate. That’s it.
I like this lady. That’s all I’m saying. Right now, that’s a lot.
And no, neither Joe Biden nor Obama have served in the military. In fact, Joe got an F in ROTC. Check it out.
Bottom line, what I think/say only matters to me at this point. She’ll prove her mettle or she won’t. But, John McCain showed me something today. Bold, original, outside-the-box thinker willing to follow his gut and make a REAL change in the status quo. The O, on the other hand, rants about change until we’re gagging on it, then picks a running mate who’s been in the Senate LONGER than the guy he says is too old and tired, in physicality and in spirit, to serve as President.
I know he talks out of both sides of his mouth, but does one side really not know what the other side is saying? They should get together. Or not.
I was fading away, with the fade out on the pantsuit brigade. But, I think I’ll saddle up for another round. This could be fun.
FYI – I posted your article on Digg. Just click on the link & digg:

In two days we know more about this candidate than we do about Barry/Barck…What the hell do we really know about Barry/Barck after he has spent 300 million dollars to tell us about himself? It will take another 300 million to keep all those secrets of his quite before the GE…but it seems Larry Sinclair, Ayers and challenges to his name/COLB are coming home to roost.
Congrats to John McCain and his choice of Gov. Sarah Palin…as a former Hillary supporter, game well played and you have my vote, and I will worked as hard for your ticket as I did for her. No way, No how, Obama.

Palin booed for mentioning Hillary Clinton
Posted: 07:35 PM ET
From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
Palin is praising Clinton on the trail as the GOP woos the New York senator’s supporters.
WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – This might not be the best way to reach out to those disillusioned Hillary Clinton supporters.
In just her second appearance on the campaign trail with John McCain, newly-minted GOP running mate Sarah Palin was showered with boos on Saturday for attempting to praise Clinton’s trail-blazing bid to become the first female president.
As she did at in her debut speech in Ohio yesterday, Palin appealed to the women in the crowd here in Pennsylvania with a political shout-out to Geraldine Ferraro, who preceded Palin as the first women to be tapped as a vice presidential candidate. The reference was met with polite applause.
But in contrast with the mild reception that greeted the comment at the Ohio event, when Palin praised Clinton here for showing “determination and grace in her presidential campaign,” the Alaska governor was met with a noisy mix of boos, groans and grumbles around the minor league ballpark where the “Road to the Convention Rally” was held.
Palin quickly recovered, promising the audience that female candidates weren’t yet finished, and that she and McCain were on their way to victory in November.
Filed under: Hillary Clinton • Sarah Palin
I was an undecided Dem, disappointed when Hillary didn’t win the primary, b/c I thought she’d truly collected more popular votes, but “OK” w/the process. But, after watching candidate Obama, I was just disgusted w/his conduct—the assinine European trip, his poor treatment of Hillary & his ineffectual response to helping retire her debt…AND the way he treated President Clinton. (EX-PRESIDENTS CLUB is really small. They WERE elected, they are ALL are deserving of the respect of the office, esp. from anyone who is TRYING to get to the the spot they already earned). In effect I decdied that when Obama declined to pick Hillary as his VP, I was ready to bail from the party— Obama is NOT A TEAM PLAYER. He did NOT build a Democratic Machine for us. He built an Obama Machine…one that annointed him and took him up into a cloud of orgasmic adoration at that outrageous DNC spectacle….the one at which he said just about ZERO of substance to address what he would concretely do in office and how he would make it happen. STILL the EMPTY SUIT.
SO, yes, I will vote for PALIN. So far, she is the only one running on either ticket that I WILL vote for. Everyone keeps saying that people won’t vote for VP, that historically, they vote for the top of the ticket. Need I say, these ARE historic times. One way or the other, we are either going to have the first Black president or the first Female VP. We ARE ALREADY OUTSIDE THE BOX. I will vote outside the box. I think others will, too, & I can’t believe that pollsters aren’t asking the right questions to find that out.
Ladies, I read your comments and I feel your pain. I am utterly disappointed that Hillary is not our candidate or at least our VP candidate. And I admire Palin. In fact, I admire McCain as well. But it is the issues I cannot agree with. The policies that McCain has recently embraced so willingly (I did not expect him to spin such a different set of policies! They vary from those he presented during the GOP presidential debates, where he demonstrated very sophisticated understanding on immigration, globalization etc…) So, even though I like Palin, I feel that the ol’ boy’s club is trying to play us again and I will vote democrat.
I witnessed the downfall of one empire, I do not want to witness the downfall of this one!
Alright Ladies it is time to demand the respect we deserve. Good Grief we are the majority!!!!Let’s act like it. I have had it with being told to sit down and shut up..and be a good party soldier. We have a chance in a lifetime here. It is DISGRACEFUL!! that England has had a woman leader, heck even some of the Middle East countries have had a woman leader. Come on American Woman!!! Let’s stand together. Obviously you guys have worked out that if John McCain goes one term, the line up for president in 2012 WILL be between two woman.– Hillary vs. Palin. We will have a woman president regardless. I have waited my whole life for this.
I am sick of the sexiist comments by the media—Who do they think they are???They already stole the nomination from Hillary–Do not let them get away with demeaning and mocking another powerful woman. I would love to hear Obama use his snearing reference about “annie oakely, the gun slinger ” in regards to Palin like he did to Hillary…..He is such an arrogant piece of work. Palin could kick his wimpy butt all over the place. Just as Hillary kicked it in the debate..(that was priceless)..I am furious how the democrats have ignored our 18 million votes for Hillary and instead putting the joke Joe Biden in- who thinks Palin is “good looking!” (Gee thanks joe..) This “Sweetie” is disgusted and is voting for the canidate that is actually walking the walk on respecting woman. You could tell how proud and excited McCain was after Palin’s speech. She hit it out of the park and into Obama’s face!!–You could see McCain was excited and proud of his partner -a strong woman. He isn’t- threatened by a “Sweetie” and had the guts and respected women enough to put her on his ticket. Obama could have……He had to literally IGNORE 18 MILLION VOTES!!! And I thought this was a democracy and the people, not the press or their “messiah” ran our country. We need to teach them a badly needed lesson. We will not be taken for granted and used and abused!! Our vote is important and badly needed!! Let’s send a message that we will not longer be treated like second class citizens!!
As to threat the democrats are using to try to keep us from jumping ship–”They will outlaw abortion!!!” If Bush/Cheney couldn’t do it- I am not afriad of the two mavericks! We are the majority and we need to DEMAND respect for women!!!!!They will never take us for granted again!! Let’s stick together, be smart and line up 2012!!!!! If we could elect a woman president before the end of my lifetime I would be thrillled!!!
HILLARY VS. PALIN 2012!!!!—The President of the United States will be a woman!!!!!
Sarah Palin is much more akin to Dr. Laura than Hillary Clinton. Watching the convention I kept thinking I just don’t get how the republican party became so mean and angry. tThey mainly sell their message through fear – Lieberman was doing the same thing. “Think about how much 9/11 scared you and vote for us!”
Democrats are becoming very afraid, and should be, they still don’t get it.
John McCain/Sarah Palin 08
The Democrats have failed to listen, they are being fired. Big Time and because of this person and DNC you will have to live with it.
Zero expericence, no way the one you chose has zip, nada, bye bye.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obrd9uHpGRE
Foo Pa on this muslim faith: Hummmmm
So now they want Hillary to be their attack dog…….
–YOU NOMINATED THE WIMP AND MR.DC !!!!
WHAT FREAKIN NERVE!!!!! Do not do it Hillary!!! Let the two little boys wilt…. even
the media can’t save these arrogant WIMPS!!!!!!!!!!
I just saw a biographical program on Obama on Fox (the only channel I can stomach right now)…… Why did Obama go to Packistan for several weeks when he was young?? hmmmm…….not a real common vacation spot…. And why (once again!) hasn’t the media asked and investigated. Perhaps they could use one of the millions of reporters they have ripping through Alaska right now…. It sure as heck is NOT mentioned in both of his books of “self discovery” that I read. WHY??
The attacks on Sarah Palin, and they are outlandish, indeed. There have been articles about her teenage children’s misdeeds, her hairstyle, and some really amazing drek about how she never met a Jew before she met Joe Lieberman (there is a rabbi in Wasilla, by the way), passionate attacks against her “platform”(!?) to deprive women of their individual rights….
the list goes on, and on, and on, and gets stranger by the day.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are trying to add enormous contributions to ACORN as an attachment to the bailout bill. Barack Obama has close ties to ACORN, an organization that has engaged infraudulent voter registration.
I predict re-alignment of the parties, because the Democrats have thrown the decent Liberals out of the party.
