Last night, I received an e-mail from Howard Dean, a plea for the troops to rally together in opposition to John McCain. My reply was probably not what Howard or the DNC wanted to hear, so hopefully they have been bombarded with similar messages.
Here’s Howard’s message, and my reply follows:

Subject: Unfunny jokeTD,
I’ve got a joke for you.
Last week, John McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, sent a memo to the McCain campaign staff about a brand new “conflicts policy.”
This policy was designed to identify staffers with “conflicts” working within McCain’s organization after three advisers resigned from the campaign. One was found to be working for an anti-Democrat “527″ organization, and the other two — a regional campaign manager and the convention CEO — were found to have lobbied for the Myanmar junta in 2003.
Here’s the punch line: Rick Davis, author of the memo and the person in charge of finding these “conflicts” within the campaign, founded his own lobbying firm, and, according to the Politico, “has made at least $2.8 million lobbying Congress since 1998.”
But it gets worse. Charlie Black is McCain’s chief political adviser. Over the past seven years, lobbying filings show he’s used his connections with George Bush and Dick Cheney to lobby administration officials for dozens of wealthy clients. The Washington Post reported that “Black said he does a lot of his work by telephone from McCain’s Straight Talk Express bus.”
John McCain’s commitment to keeping Washington lobbyists out of his campaign is a joke — but it’s not funny. It’s shocking.
Since Davis sent around his “conflicts” memo, two more people have been shamed out of the McCain campaign. But why not Davis and Black? Of all the possible conflicts revealed, isn’t lobbying from the campaign bus the worst? And does McCain care that his campaign manager made millions after starting his own lobbying shop? If those are acceptable, what exactly did McCain find about the people they let go?
Tell John McCain to fire Rick Davis and Charlie Black today. If he’s really committed to keeping “conflicts” out of his campaign, he should have no trouble cleaning house the way he needs to.
http://www.democrats.org/FireTheLobbyists
This past Sunday, John McCain defended the situation by telling reporters that his lobbyist advisers are “not in the lobbying business; they’ve been out of that business.”
And just yesterday, John McCain said he wants to have “the most comprehensive and transparent of any presidential campaign in history” when it comes to lobbyists. How can that be true when people like Charlie Black admit he’s conducting his lobbying business on the back of the bus?
John McCain and his campaign can’t have it both ways. On the one hand, he says “ethics and transparency are not election year buzz words.” But, on the other hand, he and his top campaign advisors have no problem fudging about their lobbying records. When pressed on the discrepancy, they give a flip excuse: Americans don’t care.
Demand honesty and openness in politics. Tell John McCain to fire Charlie Black and Rick Davis today:

Let’s keep McCain accountable,
Howard Dean

Subject: Re: Unfunny jokeHoward,
At the moment, I’m focused on keeping you accountable.
I am a lifelong Democrat who has never voted off-party, but I will this year if Barack Obama is the nominee.
The superdelegate system is designed for precisely this kind of situation — to keep the party from nominating an unelectable candidate. Who would have known just a few months ago that Barack Obama would be tainted by Rev. Wright, patriotism problems, associations with people like William Ayres and Tony Rezko, rude and elitist remarks about bitter small-town Americans, the discovery of a shockingly thin resume, and so many more skeletons?
The Democratic Party has a poor track record when it comes to nominating electable candidates. This year, we have the unique opportunity to nominate a candidate who has demonstrated her populism and appeal across nearly every Democratic demographic. Hillary Clinton has established a winning coalition and can beat John McCain. Barack Obama will get sunk by the 527’s and the GOP before Labor Day.
Clearly the people agree as Clinton is now ahead in the popular vote. And have you looked at the county-by-county maps in primary states? Clinton wins across the country by an overwhelming geographic margin. Her strength with swing voters in battleground states will put the Democrats well over that crucial 270 mark in November. I’m sure you’ve seen the latest Electoral Vote maps based on current 50-state surveys. In case not, you can get a quick view of them at the top corners of this website: mydd.com.
I will not stick with this Party if it makes the foolish error of overriding the peoples’ will and bypasses the strongest and most electable candidate for the sake of political correctness. That’s a losing strategy, and haven’t we lost enough presidential elections lately?
I will not stick with this Party if the votes and delegates from Florida and Michigan are not recognized IN FULL, and immediately.
I will not stick with this Party unless there is an immediate reversal of the hostility (and often sexism) demonstrated by party officials such as Donna Brazile, a “neutral” analyst on CNN and supposedly “undeclared” Superdelegate. What a joke this entire party has become. It’s disgraceful.
I, along with millions of other Hillary supporters, are watching. I urge you to do the right thing in the interest of party unity.
Thank you.
TD

Heh. Dead on. I unsubscribed to the DNC list when I got that email. In the “why?” dialog box, I said, “Florida and Michigan.”
The end of the Dean/Brazile/Empty Suit era can’t come fast enough.

TD, I just wanted to tell you that I think this letter back to Dean is PERFECT. Just wanted to thank you for everything you. You are inspiring a lot of people to fight!

Texas Darling, thank you. My response when I unsubscribed from the email was “Mr. Dean, YOU’RE the joke.” I’m sure the GOP thinks your handling of the FL & MI fiasco is a real riot.
I’m so done with this joker and this party.

Thank you! As a well-educated 27 year old female, I have been so disappointed with my demographic! I get so frustrated when talking to my peers about their blind live for this man, and I just don’t get it. I often feel like they need to go through some sort of mass deprogramming program. I never thought I would hear myself consider voting for a republican, but it’s Hillary or bust for me! Thank god for people like you who have the sense to speak out and see this man for what he truly is!

Let me see if I understand this:
You are for universal health care, but not if Barack Obama is the nominee.
You are for ending the war in Iraq, but not if Barack Obama is the nominee.
You are for reforming the judiciary and turning away from Supreme Court appointments like John Roberts and Samuel Alito, but not if Barack Obama is the nominee.
You are for ending Republican handouts to big business, but not if Barack Obama is the nominee.
You are for ending the Bush/Cheney concentration of power in a monarchical executive, but not if Barack Obama is the nominee.
Am I close?

I’m voting McCain if not Clinton because he has not attempted to deny Americans the right to vote. Obama has done so both by taking his name of the Mi ballot so as to make the results apear illegitimate should the DNC resolve its differnce with the state. He has blocked revotes in Fl and Mi. He has attempted to force another candidate from the race denying voters a choice of candidates. He is simply UnAmerican, as are his numerous associates. I don’t like McCain at all: but he’s not in bed with Rezko, Auchi, al Qazwini, Wright, Ayres, etc. As for Roe v Wade, I have no faith whatsoever that the dems will continue to support it. Obama is clearly in the pay of energy companies, notably nuclear and other hardrock mining. He IS business as usual. I choose my own candidate, I do not do what someone tells me to do. Your trollish comments are absurd. I am laughing at you, not with you.

told him obama doesn’t win in november. the cast of characters that surround obama will not be allowed anywhere near the White House, ever. it’ll be Sen Clinton or Sen McCain residing at Pennsylvania Avenue. obamacans, suck it up .

there is such a major disconnect between the democratic voters and the dnc and superdelegates. it must be the money. or that bho is such an empty suit that they will manipulate him. i umderstand msnbc wanting obama, because they know they will get mccain. but the dem leadership? what’s in it for them? why would they take this huge gamble on this unknown guy with all the baggage. this is a 50/50 race if you consider that he cheated in the caucus states. oh, and he also advertised in fla. so the dnc should not give him any delegates, that’s the rules. so the dems will lose millions of votes over this, just enuf to get mccain elected by dems! and then hillary will come back in 2012. no vp for her! so let them do it. we are all watching. and gov sebelius is not the anwer. we can not be appeased.

well said kitty! thanks for the comment.

Wow. I’m truly beginning to think that a fair amount of Hillary supporters live in a different dimension with entirely different laws of physics, math, reason, and overall human behavior. I wonder if it has gravity…
Where to begin. Ugh. Okay let’s start with this…thing: “Clearly the people agree as Clinton is now ahead in the popular vote. And have you looked at the county-by-county maps in primary states? Clinton wins across the country by an overwhelming geographic margin.”
1.Hillary Clinton is categorically, mathematically, and truthfully NOT winning the popular vote. The maddeningly twisted way she (and, apparently, some folks around here) uses to arrive at that conclusion consistently robs her of whatever intellectual honesty she has left. Why not go all the way and claim to be leading in delegates too? Why not just outright claim to be the President already? That would be just as honest. Please stop parroting this nonsense.
2.Count all the counties you want. It’s still meaningless.
3.Geographic margin? Also meaningless.
On to the next one. “This year, we have the unique opportunity to nominate a candidate who has demonstrated her populism and appeal across nearly every Democratic demographic.”
Black people. Young people. People who live in/near cities. None, apparently, are Democratic demographics, because she gets her butt kicked among them every time.
Moving on. “I’m sure you’ve seen the latest Electoral Vote maps based on current 50-state surveys. In case not, you can get a quick view of them at the top corners of this website: mydd.com.”
Mydd is an openly biased pro-Hillary site. You know that. Choosing that one over the countless other sites with different electoral maps and electing not to mention its bias = intellectual dishonesty, once again. I know of another site – one that managed to correctly predict all 50 states last election – whose electoral college map is quite different. It has Obama beating McCain 293-245. It’s called Intrade.com. Please, look around over there. But either way, guessing how the electoral map will look in 5 months is a pointless exercise. No one knows what will happen because human beings are literally unable to predict the future. (Maybe in that different dimension, though…
Gob did a very good job explaining the utterly backward way of thinking that leads people who claim to stand for what Hillary stands for to turn around and vote for a man whose views are the polar opposite.
And finally, are there unicorns in this other dimension? Because unicorns are awesome and I’d love to see one someday.

you know kyle alot of us are americans first and democrats second.there is no way that this father of 5 is going to put obama anywhere near the white house as character matters most in a potus and his associations with frank marshal davis [member cpusa],marxist professors in collage[his words],bill ayers who along with his wife should be rotting in leavenworth, kalhid, rezko and the combine in chicago and not to forget wright and his anti american rantings and obama sitting there for 20 years.for all of thease associates he is unfit for the office and please hillary is ahead in the popular vote ,go to real clear politics and do the numbers.those of you on the far left can have him and the kool aid as those of us that are centirst democrats wont a under any circumstances.
kyle // May 23, 2008 at 6:57 am
Hi, Don Tufts. Kyle here.
I’m also an American. Why do you feel it’s so important to point out that you are? Maybe you’re a bit insecure about something?
You said: “His wife should be rotting in Leavenworth.”
Seriously?
Don, you are a small, pathetic man. I pity you.
don tufts // May 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm
actually kyle i have a very rich life that includes a succesful business and a great family.and anyone who plots to bomb and overthrow the us deserves to rot in a federal prison.so get a life!
witchsball // May 23, 2008 at 2:42 pm
You nailed it! perfect response!
As for the B0bots arguing that “facts are biased” - we are the reality based community now. The maps are based on numbers.
kyle // May 23, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Don, congratulations on your business and family. But the reason you are a small, pathetic man whom I pity is that you want Michelle Obama to “rot in a federal prison” for “plotting to bomb and overthrow the US”.
Michelle Obama has never done any such thing. And as I declared in a separate comment, when people like you spout off crap like that, I will now say this:
Hillary Clinton murdered Vince Foster. How can you support a murderer?
The only thing that’s rotten here is your grasp of reality. Please get back to focusing on your business and family, as I’m sure they both suffer when you take your small mind off them and make comments like the ones above.
And witchsball: I love that you’re loudly bragging about being in the “reality-based community” now. You sound so surprised about it, almost like you didn’t even mean to wind up there. Which makes sense, because you aren’t yet grasping reality. The maps, numbers, and facts still declare one thing very clearly: Barack Obama has locked up this nomination and he will defeat John McCain in the fall.
Argh, I know I shouldn’t engage people like that but it’s so tempting!!
Go unicorns!

dude you are delusional on several fronts, mainly on the fact you dont comprehend well! dude i was taking about ayers and dohrn not michelle,so like i said get a life and grow up!

Ha! I just re-read your stuff, and wow, I totally misread it. Sorry about all that, Don.
I was drunk when I read it. No, seriously!
Gob Bluth // May 23, 2008 at 6:27 pm
I was a big fan of Bill Clinton while he was President, but Don, I don’t know that you want to be maligning Obama on the grounds of character, particularly in support of a Clinton.
Let’s look at Ayers. Sure, he might have done some unseemly things as a member of the Weather Underground. But here are the facts: Ayers was never convicted of any crime. He is the Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois-Chicago. We do know Obama attended a political fundraiser at Ayers’ home in 1995. They also served together on the board of a Chicago philanthropy.
On his last days in office, President Clinton pardoned two members of the Weather Underground - Linda Sue Evans and Susan Rosenberg. So, what’s worse - a tenuous connection between Obama and Ayers (who, recall, was never actually convicted of anything) or President Clinton pardoning two members of the same group? I’ll consider getting outraged about Ayers when Senator Clinton gets outraged about the pardons.
What permeates every accusation you lay out is that it is all guilt by association. A classic McCarthy tactic. Nicely done.
But, for the sake of argument, and since you opened the door, if one’s associates make one unfit for office, how will Mrs. Clinton answer for Jim Blair, Tony Rodham, Johnny Chung, Jim McDougal, Webb Hubbell, John Huang, Jorge Cabrera, Almon Glenn Braswell, Sandy Berger, Charlie Trie, James Riady….that’s a good start.
Gob Bluth // May 23, 2008 at 6:34 pm
…and please: find me someone who went to a northeast school who didn’t associate in one way or another with marxist professors, whether they knew it or not.

Enough! How much more can they dish out? How much more can she take? The Democratic Party doesn’t deserve her talent, popularity and brillance. She needs to move to the INDEPENDENT Party and get away from all this delegate/superdelegate/swiftboating/sexist nonsense. To be talked into the VP ticket is crazy! This would only insure that Obama gets the Prez position because he cannot win without her supporters on the VP ticket–so they will push the “party-loyalty” BS. Talk about lowering the “glass ceiling” AGAIN and asking a woman to be submissive when she is clearly the one to be President!! Don’t do it, Hillary! Run on your own… we are behind you! As a lifelong Democrat–I am ready to stand up for what is right –and it is time to vote Hillary for Independent (or not at all!)
Howard Dean–find another job!
don tufts // May 24, 2008 at 4:18 pm
thanks kyle, you know there is a old saying if walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then its a duck! obama since his impressionable years in high scholl has associated with ultra far left people, and this is by his own admission ie: frank marshal davis, his uncle frank in his book,a member of the cpusa, his searching out marxist professors in collage, his association with ayers who the only reason that ayers is not in a federal prison where he belongs is that hoover was a idiot and overplayed his hand thus making the evidence against ayers unadmissable. as far as ayers and his being a professor of education ,the subject matter he pushes belong more in soviet russia or cuba than it does here.obama has had a close association with ayers going back to the mid 1980’s including being appointed to the annaberg challenge which ayers was instrumental in getting in chicago.then when you add into this mix his willingness to sit in wrights church with his children for 20 years it paints a picture of someone who probably has simular core beleifs as ayers and wright.remember the other old saying birds of afeather flock together,or as my mother used to say to me about the people i hung with in high school ,when you lie down with dogs you get fleas!
